Pasolini acquatico e felice è un uomo in costume, che sceglie l’identificazione con un corso d’acqua protagonista di molti dei suoi capolavori e della sua stessa esistenza: il fiume Tevere. Il Tevere urbano e romano degli anni Cinquanta, con le spiagge, gli stabilimenti, le barche a remi, i trampolini, i bagnanti, i pescatori, i pesci e chissà che altro, quando la terra degradava dolcemente nelle acque per poi riemergere alla sponda opposta, senza limiti fisici che stabilissero l’estraneità del fiume alla vita di ogni giorno.

That quintessentially urban, Roman Tiber of the 1950s, with its beaches, its bathing clubs, its rowboats and springboards; its swimmers, fishermen, fish, and infinite other mysteries. A time when the land simply rolled gently from the city into the water to re-emerge on the other side, with no physical barriers to mark the river out as separate from everyday life.
